David Steed is a seasoned lawyer with the Klenda Austerman Law Firm. He is a member of the firm and an active member of the WBA Ethics Committee and Civil Practice Committee. He has mediated in excess of 100 civil disputes and has experience as an arbitrator. His years as a mediator and trial lawyer give David perspective that permits him to approach a case with an honest assessment of the economic realities of litigation. It is best to honestly evaluate a case early to permit a candid evaluation of goals, strategy and probable costs.

David serves as a neutral mediator in civil matters regarding personal injury, medical malpractice, and insurance coverage disputes. Before a case proceeds to a costly trial, parties can agree to give confidential mediation a try. When hired by both parties as a mediator, David avoids giving guidance, taking sides and making judgements. His sole purpose is to lead disputing parties to arrive at an outcome both are willing to accept. Mediation can be a cost effective way to settle a dispute.

Steed’s extensive trial experience includes hundreds of bench and civil jury trials in Kansas, Oklahoma and Indiana. As he formulates strategy for each trial, David evaluates the dispute from the perspective of the opposition, which provides insight to help him create a clear path for success.

David has represented insurance companies in a myriad of litigation including coverage disputes, allegations of bad faith arising from claims handling practices and alleged conflicts of interest, and declaratory judgement and interpleader actions. Tort representation of insureds has included personal injury, property damage, death, premise claims and professional liability claims.

With a focus on professional liability defense, especially in the areas of healthcare and legal law, David is a sought-after counsel for professionals with regards to licensure, physician privileges, medical malpractice, legal malpractice, healthcare/physician defense, and negligent legal representation. He regularly represents physicians facing disciplinary action before the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts and lawyers before the Kansas Supreme Court Office of the Disciplinary Administrator. Steed is devoted to protecting the licenses, professional integrity and assets of his clients, and makes every effort to alleviate the stress involved in defending those claims.

David is an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys land and water activities including sailing and golf. Even with an extremely busy schedule, he finds time to serve as Arrow of Light Den Leader for Pack 478. He also enjoys gardening his pepper plants and landscaping.
