Chris McElgunn is the senior member of the litigation section of Klenda Austerman LLC, where he has spent his entire legal career. He also serves as a member of Klenda Austerman LLC’s Management Committee. Chris’ practice focuses on a board spectrum of commercial and business litigation in federal and state courts, arbitration proceedings and appellate practice.
Although McElgunn’s practice has covered many areas over the years, his dedication and service to the litigation department has remained unchanged. Serving a broad spectrum of clientele, Chris has been praised for his work and management of complex litigation matters, including antitrust class actions, aviation disputes, trade secret and licensing cases, and a myriad of commercial disputes. One of his more notable cases involved Christopher McElgunn serving as lead counsel for a national oil refinery in a four year litigation arising out of the SemCrude LP bankruptcy and related state cases.
His litigation experience also make him a valuable resource in providing clients day-to-day advice outside the arena of litigation. Chris represents corporate clients in the areas of general contract and business organization disputes, business torts, unfair competition, trademark infringement, franchising, covenants-not-to-compete, trade secrets, professional malpractice defense, and real estate disputes.
For years, McElgunn has headed the litigation process for the Sedgwick County tax foreclosures. Christopher initiates all of the foreclosing proceedings, including preparing the lawsuit, providing notice to parties of interest, conducting tax foreclosure sales several times a year and handling all post-sale litigation work.
Chris McElgunn grew up in Southwest Kansas. As a father of four, Chris’s home life is as fast-paced as his legal career. He is part of Klenda Austerman LLC’s community of marathon and long distance runners, and drives the firm’s active sponsorship of Wichita running events and youth track and cross-country programs. For more than fifteen years, he has been active in coaching area competitive youth baseball and the youth National Baseball Congress.
