Jeffrey D. Peier is the senior member of the business section of Klenda Austerman LLC, where he has spent his entire legal career. He also serves as a member of Klenda Austerman LLC’s Management Committee.
Jeff devotes a substantial part of his practice to handling aircraft finance transactions. With a particular emphasis in financing corporate and regional aircraft, Jeff structures, negotiates and documents various types of aircraft financing transactions, and frequently speaks at national and international aviation law conferences. He also handles mergers and acquisitions, securities matters, and general corporate matters.
Jeff received undergraduate degrees in finance and economics from Fort Hays State University (B.A., magna cum laude, 1980; B.S., magna cum laude, 1980), and a law degree from the University of Kansas School of Law (J.D., 1983). He is admitted to the Kansas Bar and is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas. He is a member of the American Bar Association (Section of Business Law and Forum Committee on Air & Space Law), the Kansas Bar Association (Corporation, Banking and Business Law Section and Legislative Liaison for the former Aviation Law Section) and the Wichita Bar Association.
In addition to professional affiliations, Jeff is involved in a number of community service activities, including: Fort Hays State University Alumni Association (National President, 1991 – 1992); Fort Hays State University Foundation (Member, Board of Trustees, 2001 – present, Investment Committee, 2009 – present, Investment Committee Chairman, 2011 – present; Executive Committee, 2011 – present); Fort Hays State University School of Business Dean’s Advisory Council (2005 – present); Fort Hays State University College of Business and Entrepreneurship Dean’s Executive Advisory Council (2010 – present); Wichita Aero Club (Founding Director, 2008 – present, Secretary, 2011 – present); and a 25+ year volunteer for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (Wichita Branch – Member, Advisory Board, 1985 – present, Chairman, 2001 – present; All America Chapter, Member, Board of Trustees, 2002 – 2010, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, 2007 – 2010; Mid America Chapter, Member, Board of Trustees, 2010 – present; Midwest Region Volunteer Leadership Council, 2011 – present; National Volunteer Leadership Council, 2011 – present).
Jeff is married and has one son, who is a senior at the University of Colorado in Boulder. In his spare time, Jeff is an avid scuba diver with advanced ratings (dragging his underwater camera along at all times), enjoys snow skiing, and persists in playing in pickup basketball games with “old guys” who still think they can play.
