Nelson, Chad S.

Chad S. Nelson is a transactional business attorney practicing in the areas of aviation law, corporate law and general business law.  Chad is a member with Klenda Austerman LLC.  Chad’s focus is on representing aircraft lenders, lessors, purchasers and sellers in relation to corporate and regional aircraft.  A substantial amount of Chad’s time is focused on international aviation transactions.  He also represents domestic FAR Part 135 operators, fractional aircraft providers and other clients in general aviation law matters.

Chad received his undergraduate degree from Fort Hays State University (B.A., Political Science, 1997 summa cum laude) and a law degree from the University of Kansas Law School (J.D., 2000).  He is admitted to the Kansas Bar and is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas.  He is also a member of the Kansas,Wichita and American Bar Associations.  Chad is a participating member of the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), the National Aircraft Finance Association (NAFA), the Wichita Aero Club, Young Professionals of Wichita, and the World Trade Council of Wichita.

Chad’s experience includes: (i) international representation of lenders, lessors, borrowers and lessees in over 45 countries; (ii) representation of aircraft parts manufacturers, aircraft brokers and dealers, corporate flight departments, private aircraft owners/operators, fixed base operators, air ambulance operators, regional airlines and FAR Part 135 operators, in connection with the planning, negotiation and documentation of various types of aircraft acquisition and operating arrangements; (iii) representation of clients in connection with joint ownership, time sharing, block charter time and fractional ownership arrangements; (iv) assisting lenders and lessors in connection with the documentation of default workout and forbearance arrangements, and with repossessing, foreclosing and exporting domestic and international aircraft; (v) assisting clients in sales and other tax planning, including Kansas lex situs opinions with respect to aircraft and other equipment acquisitions; (vi) representation of clients in connection with aircraft registration issues, including, owner trust and voting trust arrangements with respect to cross-border transactions and registration of aircraft in foreign jurisdictions; (vii) providing consulting and expert testimony services with respect to aircraft related disputes and litigation; and (viii) representing clients in connection with various mechanic’s, materialmen’s and fuel liens, as well as other aircraft title encumbrance issues.

Chad is married and has two children, a son age four and a daughter age two.  He is an avid University of Kansas basketball and football fan and enjoys many outdoor activities with his wife and children.
