Jeff Peier: Klenda Austerman Attorney

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society recognized Klenda Austerman Managing Member Jeff Peier on November 7, 2015 for over three decades of leadership, creativity and innovation in service to the Society. Peier’s MS story began 31 years earlier in 1984 when he was asked to represent the law firm on the local Society Board of Trustees. Since that time, Peier has used his unfailingly optimistic and consistent leadership to support and encourage volunteers and mentor staff, according to Jenna Neher, President of the National MS Society Mid America Chapter. Peier continues to support research for a cure to the challenging disease that attacks the central nervous systems of over 2.3 million people worldwide, causing symptoms ranging from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis.

Peier has served in numerous capacities, including roles that have facilitated the Society’s transition to a centralized approach to strategic alignment. Peier is proud to say that he was the last Chair of the former South Central and Western Kansas Chapter, the former All America Chapter and, most recently, the Midwest Region Volunteer Leadership Council. Peier is a current member of the National Volunteer Leadership Council, serves on the Board of the Mid America Chapter (serving as Chair of the Governance Committee and as a member of the Finance Committee, Governmental Relations Committee and Research NOW Committee) and is the long-time Chair of the Wichita Volunteer Leadership Council.

The Society mobilizes people and resources so that everyone affected by MS can live their best lives and stop MS in its tracks, restore what has been lost and end MS forever. In 2014 alone, the Society devoted $122.2 million to help more than one million individuals affected by MS connect to the people, information and resources they need. To move closer to a world free of MS, the Society also invested $50.2 million to support more than 380 new and ongoing research projects around the world. “Until there is a cure, my heart is with this mission,” said Peier.
